Written exam on the contents of the laboratory.

Oral exam consists of a laboratory project to be discussed during the oral test together with the topics dealt with during the course and the readings listed in the bibliography.

OBIETTIVI FORMATIVI

The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and expertise concerning the process of digital audiovisual production, with a particular focus on the shooting stages. In addition to the analysis of exemplary audiovisual sequences, the course will give space to a practical laboratory.

CONTENUTI

The laboratory is devised as the integration of a theoretical analysis of paradigmatic film sequences and a practical stage of shooting.

The main topics are:

− Introduction. The realisation of an audiovisual. Budget, links with production. Script, screenplay, storyboard. Writing and planning. “The audiovisual message”. Storytelling.

− Shooting techniques. How to frame. Analysis and study of framing (composition, use of dolly, steadycam, aerials, etc.). The typification of the characters: framing, dialogues and costumes.

− The film character. Construction and carachterisation. Acting.

− The digital world of shooting. The recent technological evolution and the consequent definition of new technological standards. Formats, video compression, lenses.

− Soundtrack. The role of music in the construction of meaning. The creation of sound environments. Direct recording. Types of microphones.

− Lightning and photography. Natural and artificial light. Lighting devises and techniques. The role of the director of photography. Basics of screenplay.

− From documentary to videoclip. Typologies of documentary and narrative structures. Shooting and editing techniques. How to realise an interview. The scientific audiovisual popularisation. The videoclip.
