MATHEMATICS MASTER DEGREE
TEACHING TRACK
Beauty. Harmony and logical rigour. Attention to the technical, educational and historical aspects of mathematics. Understanding the world, both physical and otherwise. Applications. These words summarise the aims of the Teaching Track of the University of Udine’s Mathematics Master Degree Programme.
We aspire to train highly-qualified, mindful teachers who take pride in their professionalism and are ready to enter the job market. We take meticulous and constant care in supervising the individual path of each student.
The courses that distinguish the Teaching Track are: History and Teaching of Mathematics and Physics, Foundations of Mathematics, Complementary Mathematics and Preparation for Teaching Experience, and are accompanied by specific teaching workshops. These courses will teach students content and methodologies useful in understanding the development of mathematics and its deepest foundations as well as its limitations.
There are also opportunities for training in the areas of anthropology, psychology and pedagogy, to prepare students for teaching in general and for the tracks into teacher training in particular. These opportunities include training abroad through Erasmus projects and participation in special initiatives in partnership with schools.
The training programme includes the following common compulsory courses:
- FOUNDATIONS OF HIGHER ANALYSIS (MAT/05) 12 CFU
- FOUNDATIONS OF HIGHER GEOMETRY (MAT/03) 12 CFU
- COMPUTATIONAL MATHEMATICS LABORATORY (MAT/08) 6 CFU
- PROBABILITY II (MAT/06) 6 CFU
A further 36 course credits must be chosen from the complementary courses shown below. These include the choice of 12 course credits in the MAT/04 scientific-disciplinary sector (SSD) and at least 6 credits from one of the following courses:
- An additional course in the MAT/04 SSD
- PHYSICS INSTRUMENT AND MEASUREMENT LABORATORY (FIS/01) 6 CFU
- PHYSICS EDUCATION (FIS/01) 6 CFU
automatically results in approval of the study plan.
The track also includes an activity chosen from:
- Laboratory of Mathematics 6 CFU
- External Internship 6 CFU
It is completed by 12 free-choice course credits and the final test for 30 credits.
