Objectives
The student is expected to be able to use statistical methods to analyze data arising mainly in scientific and technological contests and to communicate her/his findings both in technical and non-technical language.
Contents
The course is an introduction to statistical modeling and inference. Specific contents:

review of univariate distributions and density functions; statistical models and parametric families; statistics and their statistical model; sufficient statistics; generalities on point estimation, confidence regions and hypothesis testing; normal models with i.i.d. observations; estimation methods; sampling properties of estimators; prior distributions and Bayesian estimation.
