MATHEMATICS MASTER DEGREE

GENERAL TRACK

These days, mathematics is all around us, even more than meets the eye. The worlds of scientific research and work increasingly require mathematics master degree graduates who, thanks to their training, are particularly flexible and well-suited to tackling new problems.

The General Track of the Master Degree is intended to complement students’ training by providing them with a specialisation taking them to research level in at least one sector of mathematics.

The curriculum consolidates training in the areas of analysis, geometry and probability, as well as a wide range of other courses. In this way, each student may create a track orientated towards one or more sectors: the degree programme’s strengths, in addition to those mentioned, are mathematical logic, algebra, number theory, topology and dynamical systems theory. Those interested in physics may take advantage of collaboration with the Physics inter-university Master Degree.

Master degree graduates from the University of Udine often enter top national and international research centres, continuing their studies at PhD level or undertaking a career in research. Master students, in any case, have the opportunity to join research groups while still studying and conduct part of their thesis research abroad.

The training programme includes the following common compulsory courses:

A further 36 course credits must be chosen from the complementary courses shown below. Among these, the choice to take exams for at least 24 of the 36 course credits available in at least two different scientific-disciplinary sectors (SSDs) from MAT/01, MAT/02, MAT/03 and MAT/05 automatically results in approval of the study plan.

The track also includes an activity chosen from:

  • Laboratory of Mathematics 6 CFU
  • External Internship 6 CFU

It is completed by 12 free-choice course credits and the final test for 30 credits.
