The primary scientific goal of the HERMES (High Energy Rapid Modular Ensemble of Satellites) project is to develop a cheap and scalable network of nanosatellites able to timely detect, localise and investigate Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) and other high-energy transient, such as optical counterparts of gravitational waves events.
The goals of my research project are:
- Characterize HERMES innovative coupled SDD-scintillator detector, by following the development and implementation and partecipating in its test campaign.
- Investigate the near Earth environment, intended as a research stage for HERMES and the incoming generation of small spacecrafts for high energy astronomy.
- Develop the theoretical tools necessary to confront new science in the field of extreme cosmic objects and phenomena.
